Byron Caine
The infamous pirate king and captain of the Leviathan, Byron Caine was known for his cruelty and belief in ruling through fear. Once a ruler of Highgate, death and ruin follow him - so much so that the mer sight of his black sails would cause panic in even the most hardened crews. The stout and stern man believes in loyalty above all else - meaning loyalty to him, not the other way around. Due to his tendency of ruling by fear, he one ever will give his crew one “warning,” though it will be a painful one. His hobby is carving intricate runes into the bones of those that have disappointed him - Jedek Tebin has learned this the hard way. He also has a “trial by fire” initiation, wherein allows prisoners of war to join his crew if there are positions available. This is done after setting their ships ablaze, having survivors fight to the death, and then branding those he approves of.
When The Goons met him, he attacked and sank Jedek’s ship, the Sea Wolf, taking the four hostage. While Jedek was sequestered to the table for torture, the others were able to join Caine’s crew - which allowed them to get out of the slavers cages. During this time, Caine was being hunted by the legendary Gaanu Tench as a result of a poor deal. As a result Caine was looking for The Eye of the Sea, which is allegedly the only thing that can truly stop Gaanu Tench, as it is rumored to give the wielder power over water. This has led to Caine rarely leaving his cabin, for fear of falling overboard, and being tied to the ship when above deck. Ultimately, The Goons ended up making a deal with Gaanu Tench, which allowed them to escape with Jedek, and Byron Caine was swallowed along with his crew and their ship.
Later, Gaanu Tench would revive Byron Caine and his crew to attack The Goons, as he felt that their protections against him were an insult. Through careful planning, and a fair bit of panic, The Goons were able to banish Gaanu Tench, and with him the rest of his conjurings.
