Highgate
An ancient island city that was once used as a shelter during The Long Night, Highgate has been a waystation for refugees since the departure of the Ascendants. While Highgate does stand strong eons later, it is a shadow of what it could have been. The centuries saw the city fall to greed as the powerful prey on the weak and hopeless. Coin is the true rule of law here, as almost anything is permitted so long as bribes and fines can be paid. As expected, it is run by a powerful council of guild merchants and crime lords.
In general, Highgate consists of arid rocky terrain, mountainous regions, and spires that jut up from the ocean floor to protect the island from sea raiders and the Sea of Storms itself. It is also an epicenter for trade and travel, and it is this high volume of trade and travelers that allows the island to stay well-stocked.
Consists of 5 portions: The Palace, The Estates, The Colosseum, The Gallows, and The Dregs.
Rumors Heard in the City
- “Daitor has lost its crowned prince, who has been trapped in the Wolfwood since winter. When the Black River thawed, it prevented them from retreating. The Ward are taking this opportunity to expand their interests in the Empty Peaks and even potentially readying for another war.”
- “Loross, as always, has been short on their taxes and continues to refuse to bend the knee entirely to Vathrius. It’s causing a good number of nobles to begin to lose faith in Daitor’s leadership.
