"Smilin' Ash" Ashton Blythe
A quiet man who mainly kept to himself onboard the Leviathan, Ash was regarded as one of Melinoe Expspiravit‘s friends. She originally struck up a conversation with him when she found him humming to himself over a book of poetry. When asked, Ash would say that his job was negotiating on behalf of the Byron Caine, however he also seemed to have many other jobs aboard the ship. Melinoe was fairly certain, after some time, that Ash was actually a spy for the captain. This led to her keeping him close as she secretly worked to free Jedek Tebin from the torture he was enduring.
When The Goons, specifically Melinoe, became closer with Caine - getting in his good graces through perceived acts and plans of cruelty towards Jedek - Ash became unhappy. He also advised Caine against trusting Melinoe, which, while proven to be good advice, went ignored. This led to him threatening Melinoe directly.
“…He leans in and whispers a soft little tune, the intro to that song he told you about before stopping. ‘Ahhh…mm…no can’t quite feel it tonight lass. But might think about singing a different song to the captain about you three tryin’ to run off with what he thinks is his property hmm?’ [Later] He’s singing about the tale of old Jedek, and how his traitorous ways nearly cost him his life with the Ascendants, and how the lives of his crew and his ship were lost to the old pirates avarice. Where the song leads into Jedek vanishing for the remainder of old night to cleverly buy his way into Highgates higher ranks of their nobility, he leaves off with the note of Jedek just never being heard from after his ordeal in the long night….leaving the song unfinished he takes a bow and nods up to your friends approaching. ‘Slightly off key but still more than most have heard.’”
He was, understandably, horrified when the deal with Gaanu Tench came to fruition, more so since it turned out that he was related to Caine. It was also believed at one point that he was revived and changed into the washed up old man, Renshaw. Though, this was never confirmed.
