Rufus Haveron
Rhea Mythorious‘s neighbor and occasional lover. While he is once thought to have lived a life of adventure as a traveling merchant, it is unclear why he chose to settle in Shadowfen or what he may have been running from. Regardless, he always had a quiet contempt for Melinoe Expspiravit as he got the sense that she was unnatural - though he never could quite tell you why. He also had quite the contempt for anything involving magic or alchemy, and as a result, would often call Rhea a “wicked trollop” though she always seemed to take it in a flirtatious way. No one in town could quite figure out why they would sometimes be together, and so they were quite the topic of conversation in Shadowfen’s rumor mill.
Some think that Rufus was insane, as he often would tell tales of Cthulhu-esque creatures in the forest. Specifically, he would speak of a great mound of flesh, with a gaping maw and several smaller fanged mouths where eyes should be, that attacked his caravan with long tentacles. As a result, he was known to be adamantly against traversing into the forest, as he was convinced that the creature lay in wait for him.
Before his death, Rufus was somewhere in his 70s and always took exceptional pride in his appearance. He could be rather cranky, and while he did have a despise for the mythic arts, he was ultimately kind to those around him. He also was known to talk a lot, and about topics that no one else seemed to grasp, thus no one was really sure if he was crazy or not.
He was ultimately killed in Petyr’s attack on Shadowfen, though Rhea did try to save him.
