Benedict is a professor at the Mirkwood Academy of Magic and Alchemy who worked closely with Della and Cassandra Thyme to study an unusual phenomenon when they were both at the school. Benedict was instrumental to the study of Della’s power after she opened the first rift. After Della left the academy, Benedict assisted Cassie and Stone in trying to understand their predicament.

Recently, Benedict has been on sabbatical from the Mirkwood Academy, working in Trostenwald to discover the uses of a mysterious red stone mined in the fields there that he believes will be crucial to controlling the rift’s Della can create. In this research, Benedict believes that Della is accessing a newly created plane of existence that might access as a more direct pathway between the realms.
