Rubble is an unholy merge of man, machine and magic created by the gnome Miknec, at least that’s what some people that saw him for the first time thought. It could be that he would have turned out to become a war machine with no other purpose than killing and bloodshed but that’s not what happened. Miknec, his creator was kind and incredibly smart, book smart that is not socially smart and he took the time to properly raise him as good as he could. Rubble was a good student and easily picked-up most of the subjects. Specifically the skill of artificing suited him well.

With some pressure from Miknec, Alviss took him in as an apprentice. Miknec was convinced by both the fact that Alviss was a great blacksmith that he admired and that Alviss was a Dwarf, could teach Rubble valuable lessons.
