Rites of the Land
Twelvefold Path - Salmon
A Rite of Passage among Moon druids, inspired by similar rites among the Land druids. Three one-year journeys in the wild. There are similar, albeit shorter, rites when druids learn to take aquatic and flying forms.
-The first rite usually takes place in a familiar environment. The only magic allowed during the first rite are cantrips and wildshapes. These are considered magical gifts from the Wildmother and Moon Goddess. All other survival must depend on skills and knowledge, with only simple tools and weapons and whatever can be carried in a travel pack.
-Rusco’s first rite was in the forest to the north of Aynnweth.
-The second rite allows the casting of rituals (slow, thoughtful magic that has to be planned) in addition to the previous restrictions. Being more unfamiliar terrain, it is traditional to spent a couple months studying with a local grove to learn important survival methods.
-Rusco’s second rite took place in the tundra.
-The third rite allows for all magic, though the spirit of the rite is to use as little as possible.
-Rusco’s third rite took place in a desert.
Rusco was slightly younger and slightly lower-level than most who attempt the rites, but they demonstrated a prodigious understanding of druidic magic and a deep connection to the wilds. The elders agreed that they were capable of rising to the challenge. The Rites of the Land is a pre-determined way to accomplish the Salmon (endurance, creativity, and determination) on the Twelvefold Path.
