Witchlight Carnival
Ticket Booth
Gained entry, and were given a map of the carnival and each a pair of colorful cloth butterfly wings to wear.
Silversong Lake
A heckler was disturbing Palasha‘s performance Phee Patience showered the surroundings with a gentle illusion of snow and was bitterly disapointed at the heckle. The Party tracked them down, and it turned out to be a Kenku named Kettlesteam. When confronted she said she was disturbing the Witchlight Carnival until she had the information she sought about Prismeer which she believed was held by the owners.
Kettlesteam had previously overheard Witch and Light talking in their wagon. She repeated the conversation, imitating Light’s agitated voice (“Someone is going to find out about this! They’ll shut us down!”) followed by Witch’s calm yet firm reply (“We agreed to this pact. Our hands were forced but our eyes were open. We let the Hourglass Coven take what it wants, and in return, we stay in business. That is what you want, right?”).
Feasting Orchard
Yndrus Moonwater, Ellywick Tumblestrum, and two halflings competed in a Faerie Cake Eating Contest, with Yndrus emerging the victor after a timely inspiration from Mellow Dias.
Calliope
Spoke with Ernest, a sentient monkey organ grinder, and his goblin sidekick Marigold who was dressed as a ladybug. After an attempt to tip using currency Phee Patience carefully unpicks a irrelevant button from her backpack and gives it to Marigold.
Gondola Swans
Rode on a gondola pulled by a giant swan named Feathereen who swapped gossip after asking them philosophical questions.
Heard that Burly was an erudite and sensitive bugbear, who had lost his brother and that the mime Candlefoot‘s voice had disappeared as he was about to declare his love to Palasha.
Carousel
The Party had information imparted to them by the magical unicorns, after solving the riddle of their names given to them by Diana Cloppington.
- Zybilna of Prismeer is frozen in time.
- Three hags have seized control of Zybilna’s domain and split it among them. Together, these hags form the Hourglass Coven.
- The hags’ names are Bavlorna Blightstraw, Skabatha Nightshade, and Endelyn Moongrave, and their splinter-realms are called Hither, Thither, and Yon. The coven is so riddled with distrust that each hag is convinced her sisters are plotting against her.
Lost Property
Met Dirlagraun the displacer beast, looking after children. They inadvertently scared a child who was swiftly found by Yndrus Moonwater. This caused them to admit that their cub, Star, had also gone missing and asked The Party to find them. Phee Patience being empathic to all creatures in plight solemly swore to return Star to Dirlagraun and received a mirror ball in return.
Also mentioned that the owners of the carnival have been on edge and suggested sneaking into the Staff Area in order to spy on them and find out more.
Hall of Illusions
While walking down to the Hall of Illusions they encountered a young treant, Northwind, raining down golden, spinning sycamore seeds. He encouraged Phee Patience to catch one, which she did.
Upon arrival the halfling Rubin Sugarwood has about to propose to his beloved when she stepped in range of a cabinet holding a mannequin of Yggwilv, also known as Tasha, whereupon she was struck down by hideous laughter. Mortified he ran into the hall and was found by Yndrus Moonwater in front of a mirror having a conversation with a strange girl in a pig mask, who only appeared behind the mirror.
Once reunited with his beloved she said yes before he was even able to complete his proposal.
Outside, in a conversation with the mute Candlefoot, they learned that Kettlesteam was the one responsible for stealing his voice.
Upon re-entering the Hall of Illusions in an attempt to confront the strange masked girl Phee managed to put her to sleep, and Mellow impersonated her in order to trick and question her.
It was revealed that she had been sent by Bavlorna Blightstraw to steal items, and children, from the carnival from people who did not have tickets.
Staff Area
Talked to Burly, who let the party in to the Staff Area to spy on Misters Witch and Light.
Mister Witch, in a low and gravelly voice: “You need to find a way to calm down.”
Mister Light, in a high-pitched, shrill voice: “I’ll calm down when that kenku pest is gone.”
Witch: “She knows nothing. She’ll get frustrated soon enough and be on her way.”
Light: “I hope you’re right.”
Witch: “Trust me.”
Witchlight Carnival
The party then searched for and confronted Kettlesteam, and used the information gathered from the Carousel and their overheard conversation to not only assuage Kettlesteam’s demands but also convinced her to free Candlefoot’s voice.
