Session 1 Recap
The party boarded the merchant ship flying a blue flag with a white falcon. Upon boarding, Ashir greeted us and gave us the rundown of the situation. We were on a merchant ship on behalf of House Rosznar. On the ship were caskets of wine stamped with the House seal to provide credibility. Half of the crew were members of House Rosznar; the other half were members of the Black Network. In addition, the ship was carrying weapons to the rebels in Chult. We were posing as “botany researchers” and were instructed to stay out of the way of the crew.
During our journey, the party engaged in various activities:
- Pique seduced the captain and was taken to their quarters. After the captain had fallen asleep, Pique picked a chest that was under their bed, taking keys, scrolls, and other miscellaneous things.
- Maléfice seduced the Quartermaster and spent time finding corners or isolated areas of the ship to spend her time.
Pholos and Maks talked with Gundrik. Maks mended sails in exchange for information. - Pholos asked Gundrik what he knew about the Death Curse. Gundrik made reference to the Spell Plague from 100 years ago and mentioned that he heard the Death Curse comes from the Soul Monger, which exists in the jungles of Chult.
- Maks spoke with Stripes and purchased Smokepowder.
Keryth gambled among the crew and spoke with Stripes about the popular places to go at Port Nyanzaru. (He received a list, which will be disclosed with the group after arriving at the port.) Stripes also said the city was under quarantine. The party either needs to get a charter or guide to Omu (the original capital) from the Lord’s Alliance, Order of the Gauntlet, or the Emerald Enclave (this will damage credibility with the rebellion) OR get assistance from the Black Network or Harpers (who will not provide a guide and who will take a lesser cut of pay). Stripes left the potential of locating a guide for the party open for discussion at a later date.
Note: There are official “forts” and cities/communities that have gone “silent” as the undead have flooded the continent.
As the party saw Port Nyanzaru come into view, a feeling of something wrong filled the crew. Pique noticed Ashir yelling at the Captain, who in turn commanded the Deckhand to change course. Maks noticed the magically sealed door to the hold was scratched and was now open. He discerned that it had been warded to keep a specific item from being taken out. Maks ran to tell the Captain, running into Ashir on their way below deck. Ashir said they suspected spies from another faction on board. Maks told the captain what had happened and saw a human rigger, Gundrik, and the halfling chef acting shifty. Maléfice noticed a short figure running across the deck one evening when sitting in the crow’s nest and noticed that we were heading toward a ship covered in barnacles. Keryth saw that the sails of this ship were shredded.
The group briefly huddled together and exchanged knowledge. Pique and Maléfice investigated the hold while Keryth stood watch, discovering a well-hidden chest, open and missing its contents. Pholos and Maks ran above deck to talk with the Captain when 10 pirates swung onto the ship, two red wizards appeared flying in the air, and the first mate & head carpenter turned on the captain. The Quartermaster buckled, blood rushing from their throat; a figure materialized behind them, blade in hand.
Chaos ensued. The party sensed and noticed invisible figures trying to escape the ship. Malefice attacked one as they jumped over her, causing them to materialize. They carried a magic item with them. The other thief also eventually materialized.
After an impressive combat where Maléfice was downed by many attacks only to rise again in her Dread Form to eldritch blast the Red Wizards with ferocity, Pique caught the Captain after they were knocked out and fell from the Crows Nest, Pholos summoned four Giant Wasps that swiftly took care of a Red Wizard, Maks obliterated some ruffian pirates with his gun, and Keryth used his trusty sword to batter another pirate, the party emerged triumphant.
The woman who had stabbed the Quartermaster is still alive and is captured. The Red Wizards have been killed. The two thieves have been halted, and they surrendered.
