Past (Backstory)

Adanthe - mother of Keryth, famous trident and net-wielding champion, alive
Nessa - mother of Keryth, priestess who attends to the shrine of Deep Sashelas, alive
Sovemil - father of Keryth, serves as a community mediator and healer, alive
Tristand - friend and adventuring companion of Keryth, deceased, the previous owner of Hunger
Hulka - the Aarakocra who killed Tristand for Hunger and who Keryth knocked down/attempted to kill, status unknown
Keryth grew up in a community of sea elves close to the coast. He grew up with two moms and a dad (who were and still are amicably married). One of his moms, Adanthe, is a famous champion who wielded the trident and net. One of his moms, Nessa, is a priestess who takes care of the shrine to Deep Sashelas in their community, Brightreef. His dad, Sovemil, serves as a community mediator and healer. There were roughly 1,000 people who lived in Brightreef.
Keryth was a shy and frightful child growing up, terrified of the deep parts of the ocean and the terrifying creatures that exist there and the sea elves’ foe, the sahuagin. Adanthe would tell him tales of her exploits adventuring in the deep and fighting various sea beings, giving Keryth nightmares. Despite Keryth’s timidness, he became friends with Tristand, another sea elf boy who lived nearby. While other kids laughed at Keryth for being frightened when taking an educational trip outside the community toward the deeper part of the ocean, Tristand stood up for Keryth and helped calm his nerves.
Keryth became best friends with Tristand, and Keryth’s mother decided to train both of them in the art of combat. They would spend long afternoons and days practicing together in underwater combat. Keryth and Tristan would go watch his mother fight in tournaments among the sea elf communities for a long time. When Keryth and Tristand turned roughly 50, Keryth’s mother entered into a tournament on land. She took Keryth and Tristand along with her to watch. This introduced Keryth and Tristand to the land-dwelling culture and found themselves enchanted as they continued visiting every couple of years. The pair made friends with other young people on the mainland, having friendly duels with others. Tristand, a risk-taker, got involved in the Black Network through these contacts. Through here, he learned of the Seven Insatiable Blades and their wielders. Enchanted by their reputation and desiring a life of adventure, Tristand made obtaining one of the blades his life goals.
Keryth became worried and tried to convince Tristand not to pursue this goal, even consulting each of his parents. This did not work, and Tristand remained determined. Around the age of 100, Tristand and Keryth were finally recognized as adults. Tristand decided to travel and seek out the Insatiable Blade called Hunger. Keryth vowed to his community to protect Tristand during this quest and return home once Tristand has claimed the blade. The two traveled, Keryth nervous and trying to reconcile Tristand’s interest in such a terrifying blade and his unwavering care for others. Along their travels, Tristand would dance, party, and lift the spirits of those he surrounded, helping Keryth grow outside his shell.
After 15 years of travel, the pair finally found the wielder of Hunger. Tristand challenged her to a duel to the death and won, claiming the sword. Keryth was deeply troubled by this encounter, and the pair returned back to their community for 3 years. Keryth focused on his faith and caring for the shrine with his mother, thanking Deep Sashelas for keeping them safe on their journeys. However, Tristand felt an itch to become an adventurer, and Keryth decided to accompany him again, deciding to keep his vow to protect him. The two traveled, Tristand eventually becoming distant from the Black Network and becoming committed to spreading good and kindness and celebration despite the reputation of being an Insatiable Swordswielder.
After roughly 12 years, Tristand’s final challenger showed up, a fierce Aarakocra named Hulka. Hulka challenged Tristand in the middle of an abandoned, underground dwarven city that he and Keryth had adventured to to explore.
The two fought in a violent battle, but Hulka ended Tristand’s life with a well-placed stab through the chest. Enraged and upset, Keryth stabbed Hulka in the back and bashed her in the head with his shield as she went to claim Hunger. Hulka fell to the ground, presumably dead. Keryth spent a moment to grieve Tristand, took Hunger, and vowed to do good and bring joy to others as Tristand had done before (the origin of his powers). He left and abandoned the two deceased adventurers as Hulka’s allies and dwarven constructs came closing in.
Keryth returned home and sharpened his teeth to represent shark teeth, a culturally-recognized mark of his failure to keep his vow. Keryth spent some time with his family before leaving once again to keep his new vow to bring joy and hope and light to others by using Hunger. (He also couldn’t live with the idea of his family witnessing his death if someone challenged him for the sword.) This is how he became acquainted with the party, finding the joy that boba brought to the city, finding some sense of direction and cause to fight for, and finding people who understood him. This also helped him lay low as an Insatiable Blade Wielder and to keep tabs on the Black Network while also paying them bribes to help keep his location hidden from those who would want his sword.
Present (Appearance/Description)
Keryth is 5’9” and built solid and strong. He has light blue skin, slightly darker blue hair kept in a tight buzz cut, and light green eyes. His teeth are chiseled into sharp points, similar to how shark teeth appear. When adventuring, he wears his chain mail, a shield with a symbol of Deep Sashelas, and his longsword, Hunger. When not adventuring, he prefers to dress more casual. For him, this means often forgoing a shirt, wearing some light shorts or pants that end below his knee, wearing a few rings on his fingers, and a silver armband on his left bicep. He has a giant tattoo of an octopus on his left thigh, and a tattoo of a trident and shield on his right bicep.
Keryth tends to be laidback and is all about hanging out with people. He often incites games and competitions (wrestling, ball games, eating, drinking, dancing) amongst his friends and local cityfolk. During at least one hightide during the day he will try to perform some sword maneuvers, but other than that, you will rarely see him off by himself.
Future (Goals, Dreams)
Keryth dreams of one day seeing Hunger and the other Insatiable Blades put to rest. Until then, he will do his best to use Hunger and convince any challengers to put the quest for obtaining Hunger aside to see the pain it causes.
Keryth values bringing people together for the common good and spreading joy and laughter among others. He will often start games or competitions or dances with the people around him to pass time. He also enjoys swimming or simply sitting underwater. He tries to give what money and food he can spare to the people in the neighborhood. Keryth largely tends toward doing good and doesn’t always see the law as good. Keryth tends to consider the consequences that certain laws or actions have on people rather than simply respecting authority. When it comes to gray areas, he often struggles, as he can be convinced to do things that go against his general morals and philosophies, but they tend to weigh on him.
Keryth would like to visit his family again sometime. Right now, he dreams of maintaining a good, easy-going life at the boba shop with the party and occasionally adventuring with them.
Keryth has remained paranoid that Hulka or her allies survived and that they will show up unexpectedly to claim his life and the blade Hunger. He has flashbacks to Tristand’s death quite frequently still. Keryth will often base his decisions around honoring Tristand and thinking about how Tristand would treat others with kindness and lightheartedness during their travels.
