Walking towards Fane with a new purpose, we suddenly heard a great commotion as a small group of Orcs ran past us. While they did stop briefly to consider eating us, ultimately they decided that whatever was chasing them was more pressing. Not knowing how this would play out, especially since Petyr Godfrey has brought so much of Antaeus back to Fane with him, I politely (but hurriedly) asked our new companion Rulf Redstream to hide in my bag. He was admittedly hesitant, but hearing the approaching hooves, he relented.
Six galant skeletal riders surrounded us within minutes. Treldaan, disguised in his Elven form, and I cautiously let them approach as Severin lay in wait in case anything went sideways. Their leader was clear and imposing, with gleaming armor upon his mostly skeletal frame, as he demanded to know what two “fleshlings” were doing in these newly cursed lands. I politely informed him that we were headed to Fane, though this seemed in many ways to be the wrong answer. Trying to explain further, I went to pull out the birthright papers I had Poem, of Jasper forge for me, tho I was stopped when this commander insisted that one of his men should retrieve the paper.
Not wanting to surprise them, given that they were likely to come across him, I told them that Rulf was in my bag and that we were returning him to Fane as well. Like most things in this conversation, it didn’t seem to be the right answer. That was until his man, Umar, unceremoniously dumped out the contents of my bag. Looking over my forged papers, the commander’s face changed subtly while his attitude changed much more abruptly. He suddenly was offering an escort back to Fane, much to the shock of his men - who had been chasing Orcs before running into us. But he was adamant.
Rulf was put back in my bag to avoid the need for a “trial” and hearing that we were going to leave, Severan revealed himself. Thankfully this commander, who reintroduced himself as Bramak Blackhand, saw the strategy in this. Thus our journey to Fane continues.
