#004 Circe's Island, pt 2

Session #004 (25.09.14)

  • The Night Wind crew survives the Hall of Mirrors, encounters Circe, then is sent to the Labyrinth to recover Poseidon's Eye: 27 April 1690

Dates: April 27, 1690
Setting(s):

  • Cersei’s Hall of Mirrors
  • Cersei’s Throne Room
  • The Minotaur’s Labyrinth

The fourth session proved to be one of the most psychologically and spiritually challenging yet, testing each party member’s deepest fears and insecurities while revealing shocking truths about divine politics and Scarlette’s true nature. The party navigated Cersei’s supernatural Hall of Mirrors, where malevolent echoes of themselves attempted to break them through psychological torment, with Chester nearly dying in the process. Following this trial, they witnessed an explosive confrontation between Cersei, Poseidon, and Scarlette, where Scarlette’s divine nature was fully revealed as she transformed into her voodoo form to battle the sea god. The session concluded with the party entering the deadly Minotaur’s Labyrinth, where they must collect four artifacts without alerting the dangerous beast that hunts them.

NPCs Featured:

  • Cersei (Greek Goddess) - Hosted the trials in her temple and proposed the final arrangement to resolve the conflict with Poseidon
  • Poseidon (Greek God) - Arrogantly demanded the return of his stolen eye, leading to violent confrontation with Scarlette
  • Scarlette - Revealed her true divine nature and voodoo powers while leading the party through increasingly dangerous trials

Major Story Developments:

  • The blood pact between Scarlette and Poseidon from Tortuga was confirmed as still binding
  • Cersei offered a final trial with two paths: kill the Minotaur or solve the labyrinth puzzle
  • Each party member overcame their deepest psychological fears and received inspiration rewards
  • The party entered the Minotaur’s Labyrinth, beginning the campaign’s climactic trial

Scene by Scene

  1. Hall of Mirrors Entry - Scarlette warned the party about the psychological dangers of the mirror maze, describing how it had consumed experienced sailors from her crew who never escaped.

  2. Initial Mirror Distortions - The party experienced fun-house mirror effects before the reflections transformed into malevolent, independent echoes of themselves that began psychological torment.

  3. Individual Psychological Trials - Each party member was separated and forced to confront echoes that voiced their deepest fears, insecurities, and past failures through increasingly hostile psychological warfare.

  4. Chester’s Gunshot and Catastrophic Decision - Chester shot his reflection, shattering mirrors throughout the maze, then made the disastrous choice to hug his armed echo, suffering 30 necrotic damage and falling unconscious.

  5. Physical Manifestations and Combat - The echoes began stepping out of mirrors to physically attack the party, forcing them into actual combat while maintaining psychological pressure.

  6. Individual Confrontations and Resolutions - Each party member found their own way to overcome their trials through various approaches: prayer, self-acceptance, tactical thinking, moral conviction, and rejection of past identities.

  7. Alethea’s Rescue of Chester - Alethea rolled a natural 20 to locate Chester’s frozen, unconscious body in a hidden alcove and revived him with Cure Wounds.

  8. Reunion and Supernatural Incidents - Scarlette anxiously waited in a marble foyer, checking each survivor while mysterious supernatural events occurred, including shadow specters attempting to escape through the walls.

  9. Entry into Cersei’s Throne Room - The party entered an opulent throne room rivaling Versailles, setting the stage for the divine confrontation.

  10. Three-Way Divine Confrontation - Poseidon arrogantly demanded his stolen eye while Scarlette pressed a gun to his throat, invoking their blood pact from Tortuga as Cersei watched with amusement.

  11. Scarlette’s Transformation and Battle - After Poseidon broke her arm, Scarlette shot and stabbed him before transforming into her terrifying voodoo form, gathering shadows and mist to battle his divine lightning.

  12. Cersei’s Arrangement Proposal - Cersei offered two paths for the seventh trial: kill the Minotaur for just Poseidon’s eye, or solve the labyrinth puzzle to also rescue Scarlette’s captured crew.

  13. Team Formation and Maze Entry - The party split into three teams (Cobra, Old Man, and Shadow Death) and entered separate doors into the Minotaur’s Labyrinth with careful stealth coordination.
