History of Azos
The Dawn of Realms
Azos is an ancient land, forged in the fires of creation by the Primordial Titans. Millennia ago, the Titans shaped the world, carving vast mountain ranges, deep oceans, and fertile plains. As the world settled, the Titans withdrew, leaving their essence imprinted upon the land, giving rise to powerful elemental forces that would shape the destiny of Azos.
In the ages that followed, the first sentient beings—elves, dwarves, humans, and other races—emerged and spread across the land, establishing the earliest civilizations. These were times of great exploration and discovery, with magic flowing freely through the world, untainted by corruption.
The Age of Empires
As the races of Azos grew in number and power, mighty empires rose to prominence. The elves founded the kingdom of Sivaria in the lush forests of the west, their magic unmatched and their cities gleaming with ethereal beauty. The dwarves carved the underground kingdom of Stonekeep in the northern mountains, their craftsmanship legendary. To the south, humans established the sprawling Calandor Empire, uniting various tribes under a single banner through diplomacy and conquest.
During this age, the empires coexisted in a delicate balance, trading and occasionally clashing but largely maintaining peace. The greatest threats came from the wilds beyond civilization, where ancient beasts and primordial creatures roamed.
The Shadow War
This era of prosperity was shattered by the emergence of the Underlord, a dark entity from a forgotten age, who sought to enslave the world. Leading an army of undead and corrupted beings, the Underlord launched a devastating war against the kingdoms of Azos, known as the Shadow War.
The war ravaged the land, reducing entire cities to ruins and leaving scars that would never fully heal. In the end, the combined forces of elves, dwarves, humans, and other free peoples managed to defeat the Underlord, sealing him away in a forgotten plane. The victory came at a great cost, with the empires weakened and the world left in disarray.
The Rebuilding
In the centuries that followed, the kingdoms of Azos rebuilt, though the scars of the Shadow War remained. The elves of Sivaria became more reclusive, focusing on restoring their enchanted forests. The dwarves of Stonekeep withdrew deeper into their mountains, their numbers dwindling but their resolve unbroken. The Calandor Empire fragmented into smaller kingdoms, each ruled by descendants of the original imperial bloodline.
This period of rebuilding also saw the rise of new powers. The Kingdom of Thalas emerged on the western coast, founded by human seafarers who sought to reclaim lost knowledge and power from the ruins of the old empire. The Kingdom of Primalia, to the east, became known for its lush farmlands and strong cavalry, a beacon of stability in a troubled land.
