Demons

Complex xenomorphic creatures that live beneath the rocks in the rift valley. They came surging upward like cicadas from the old world when the initial seed ship fell out of the sky. They seem absolutely fascinated with the colonists – they will frequently steal bodies of the dead. Sometimes they consume them.

Little is known about the demons, save they are numerous – aggressive, legion, and hungry. They scour the rock areas around the cities for sources of protein. The only things that live there are grasses and plans suited to the hostile environment.

There is a yearly ‘culling’ that happens around Longlenca each year where the soldiers and some ranking knights go out and clear out burrows and rifts within a ten mile radius of the city. This usually ends up in a great deal of murder on each side.

Each year, the demons seem to be getting a little smarter, and… they are changing. Sometimes their forms look more humanoid than not.
